Artesan Dance Company's debut performance, FUSION, in May of 2009 was a triumphant success. Now a year later, Artesan will be performing FUSION along with other highly anticipated new works at the Casino de Paris, in Paris, France. The performance, hosted by Parousia for the Nations, will raise funds for the "Education is the Key to their Future" project. The purpose of the project is to build a training⁄education center in Muñoz, Dominican Republic for children that live in such poverty that education inaccessible. The population consists of 70% Haitian refugees and 30% Dominican.
The evening will begin with a presentation of the project, "Education is the Key to their Future." After a short intermission Artesan Dance Company will perform a full length production that will in include parts of FUSION, In C Re-mixed, Parallels and a special performance by Artistic Director, Summer Odell, entitled For Haiti.
In FUSION, Artistic Director and Choreographer, Summer Odell, merges the resources of her dancers with her own artistic insight to create unique and spellbinding choreography.
Fusion (excerpt) is a high-energy piece that melds the art of Modern, Ballet and Urban Dance with percussion-based music from Japan and India. This cohesive celebration of ethnic and urban culture is a riveting collaboration of break dancers from Europe and the United States and movement inspired by experiences in Asia and Africa.
Parallels is the newest dynamic and compelling work of FUSION by Artistic Director, Summer Odell and Urban Dance Director Eero Taina. Parallels is a new collaboration that utilizes Artesan’s uniquely diverse range to create an unexpected, thrilling and beautiful partnership. Parallels will receive its world premiere at the Casino de Paris on June 15, 2010, in the "Education is the Key to their Future" project.
